30,000 Views After a Single Session: Malanka Media Case Study
Malanka Media (Malanka Action) is an independent Belarusian opposition media organization creating high-quality video content for audiences seeking an alternative to state propaganda. The collaboration took place as part of SEOforMedia’s partnership with the Thomson Foundation.
Goals
Malanka Media was launching two video documentaries about the band Bi-2 and wanted to maximize reach at launch — so that important independent content could find its audience.
Starting Point — Before Optimization
Previous videos were published without proper SEO optimization
Average views — 3,000–5,000 per video
Descriptions, tags, and timestamps were not helping attract new audiences
What We Did
We analyzed competitors and the band’s previous interviews and collected relevant keywords for the channel’s target audience.
We prepared timestamps and tags with key phrases and compiled a document with recommendations.
The Malanka Media team implemented all the recommendations in the descriptions, tags, and timestamps of both videos before publication.
End Point — Results
First video — 30,000 views
Second video — 18,000 views
That is 6–10 times more than the channel’s average performance before optimization.
Independent media need SEO just as much as larger outlets — and sometimes even more, because organic reach is often their only distribution channel. A single preparation session before the video launch delivered a result the channel had not achieved in years.
