The decline in Nikvesti’s traffic was caused by a combination of factors — technical website limitations and insufficient content signals for Google News algorithms, rather than a decline in demand for news or audience interest. As a result, content was not reaching its full impression potential, while the news feed lost its stable presence across Google’s news surfaces.
A comprehensive approach combining an in-depth technical audit with systematic content analysis helped remove indexing barriers, strengthen news relevance, and restore the website’s news ecosystem. After the recommendations were implemented, the website returned to regular impression and click growth, while traffic from Google News became more predictable and stable.
The key insight from this case is that growth for news media depends not only on the volume of publishing, but also on the website’s technical readiness for news algorithms and the quality of signals Google receives. Systematic work on these factors creates a foundation not only for recovery, but also for further traffic scaling.
